Travel: Where do Europeans fly?

Scroll over a country node to explore what nations its citizens travel to by air. The thickness and color of each edge represents the percentage of passengers from Country X that travel to Country Y (relative to all passengers to European destinations from Country X). Data obtained from Eurostat represents international intra-EU air passenger transport, as reported by EU and EU partner countries for Q1 of 2015.

Tourism: Where do Europeans stay?

The graphic below shows the distribution of trips between members of different European nations. The thickness and color of each edge represents the number of trips with at least 1 night stay taken by members from Country X to Country Y. Data obtained from Eurostat for 2014. Trip data from Sweden, UK, and Norway not available.

Student Mobility: Where do students go to study abroad?

The graphic below shows the distribution of students between members of different European nations with institutions belonging to the Erasmus Student Mobility program. The thickness and color of each edge represents the number of students from Country A that studied abroad in Countries X,Y,Z in 2013-2014. Data obtained from StatisticsForAll.

Marriages: Who marries outside of their own nationality?

The graphic below shows the percentage of European marriages between two people of different European nationalities and same nationality (Different nationality marriages = top, same nationality marriages = bottom; Note: the scales for top and bottom graph differ to better show differences between European nations). Each bar represents the nationality of the bride. Luxembourg and Slovakia appear to have the highest percentage of international European marriages outside of their own nationality. Data, for marriages in the year 2013, was obtained from Eurostat.
